Return to Apold…
We recently returned from another exciting adventure in Transylvania. Arriving home, at Liverpool airport, to rain bouncing on the tarmac, I was tempted to stay on the plane for the return flight. Earlier that morning, in Cluj, we’d left a glorious sunny day.
It had been a wonderful return trip to Apold, where all those years ago, the adventures had begun. We had visited a Romanian family, who, last year had become good friends of ours. I took her a gift of Elderflower soap, wrapped in an Apold Apothecary brown paper bag, which delighted and amused them. The following week, on a second visit just before we left, the soap was placed by the sink and was being well used. Before we left they placed an order for next year. Setting up a stall at the local market could be a good idea!
We ventured to our favourite place of all, Hendorf Hill, where we looked down on the village of Apold. Being September, the wildflowers weren’t quite as abundant as they had been when we’d visited in June 2017. Apart from crickets buzzing in the heat of the day, it was a perfectly peaceful scene. In the distance, a flock of sheep were slowly being moved on by a couple of giant sheep dogs and their shepherd.
For approximately one hour we remained, taking photographs and gazing at the natural beauty that surrounded us.
