Look for something positive in each day……….

A short while ago, I opened my inbox and found an email asking if I would answer some questions about candles and the impact they have on interiors.  The email was from Living Edge magazine and my information would then feature inside. I was delighted to have been selected, along with a couple of other Cheshire based candle makers.

The August edition arrived a few days ago and I was so excited to read my piece and see a picture of ‘The Meadow’ candle.  It felt like a very positive ending to the day.

My last blog post was about how I was beginning to embrace ‘slow living’ and the small changes I was trying to make to lead a more fulfilled life.  Last week I took this one stage further.  A friend messaged me and asked if I was busy.  I replied by saying I was de cluttering my life, which really amused him.  It didn’t amuse the other half; as he worried he may be a part of the process.

I spent the whole day sorting out the wardrobes and drawers of two bedrooms.  I decided that if I wasn’t likely to wear something again it simply had to go to a charity shop for a second chance.  Objects that had no meaning in my life had to go too.  I’ve always fancied being a minimalist, but never been brave enough to try it.  Because I work from home things do tend to get a bit cluttered, but over the next few weeks I’ll tackle one room at a time and make big improvements (less cleaning and dusting too!)  It felt so rewarding to have had a good sorting of clothes and objects.  I think maybe I will be finished by the end of August……..with any luck!  I have found a nearby charity shop that has just re opened, so they will be seeing quite a lot of me!

Letting go of things can be an emotional process.  Many times I’ve put something in a bag for a charity shop and then put it back in the wardrobe again.  I read about the Marie Kondo method of tidying up and it made so much sense.  She recommends spending the whole day sorting and organising, not just 30 minute bursts.  She says ‘keep only those things that speak to the heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy’.  After reading that I feel able to continue on my de cluttering journey.  I definitely feel more positive.
